Independence Is at a Crossroads

Independence is facing consequential decisions about our future. We must address long-term financial challenges, keep housing affordable, homeownership attainable, maintain aging infrastructure, support public safety, protect the community services residents value, grow our local economy, and prepare responsibly for continued growth.

These challenges don’t have easy answers, and slogans won’t solve them. They require leaders who are willing to do the work, study the issues, ask difficult questions, make tough decisions, and work with others to get results.

Since joining the Independence City Council, I’ve had the privilege of doing that work. I have helped navigate difficult budget decisions, represented Independence in regional partnerships, worked on issues affecting housing and development, advocated for responsible investments in infrastructure and public services, and pushed for long-term solutions rather than short-term fixes.

That experience has reinforced something I believe deeply: serious issues require proven leadership.

I’m running for a full term on the City Council because there is more work to do. I want Independence to emerge from this challenging period stronger, financially sustainable, economically vibrant, safe, affordable, and prepared for the future, all while protecting the character and sense of community that make this such a special place to call home.

The decisions we make today will shape Independence for decades. I’m ready to continue doing the work. I hope you will join me, because I strongly believe that Independence’s best days are ahead of us, but only if we put our differences aside, roll up our sleeves and get to work.
